Probably related to now obsolete Audio Compression Manager (ACM), which was a Windows multimedia framework for management of audio codecs (compressor/de-compressors). It was replaced by DirectX and its DirectShow component.
It seems there were several versions of this format and not all programs that support ACM may support all of the formats. Especially dedicated converters for game music usually just work for a specific game.
Winamp player with ACM plugin should be able to playback these files. It is possible some works with other media players.
You can find conversion utilities on internet that allow gamers to convert ACM audio to WAV. However most of these programs are 10+ years old and the links may be dead.
