What is ADLS file extension:

The ADLS file extension is related to ADL Workbench. An *.adls file type is intended for persisting ADL source files. The formalism is the same as for existing .adl files, i.e. openEHR ADL, but for specialised archetypes, the content has changed to include only differences, i.e. further constraints with respect to parent archetypes. The new file type will become the source file type for archetypes in the future, but for now, .adl files are not touched by the tool.

The ADL Workbench is a visual front-end for the openEHR reference ADL parser. It can be used for compiling, viewing and batch testing archetypes created for any reference model, and in any number of languages.

The tool is based on:

  • the ADL 1.4 language specification,
  • the Archetype Object Model (AOM) specification,
  • and the openEHR archetype Profile specification.
