Aksharamala is a open-source Windows application that allows easy input of Indian language text. It currently supports Hindi, Sanskrit, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarathi, Gurumukhi, Bengali, Assamese and Urdu. Aksharamala works as a conduit between the keyboard and the target application and does not have an UI of its own. It is very flexible in that you can change the target language, the input scheme from the tray app with the use of a hotkey.

Features:

  • On-the-fly transliteration into the target language using Unicode.
  • Enable / disable using a Hotkey (by default set to Ctrl + Alt + T).
  • Support for adding additional languages or input schemes without constantly updating the software.
  • Support for multiple keyboard layouts (DOE, INSCRIPT etc.)
  • Support for "revers-literation" schemes - This allows easy conversion of existing content created using ASCII based fonts (such as Shusha) to Unicode.
  • Multi-lingual support.

Note: You can click on any file extension link from the list below, to view its detailed information. The list of extensions used or otherwise associated with the application may not be complete, because many common file extensions on our website, such as jpg (pictures) or txt (text files), can be opened by a large number of applications, or are too general file format. However most, if not all directly associated file extensions should be listed with its appropriate program. Although its likely, that some file extensions may be missing from the list of associated file extensions with the application, yet they can be opened, be part of, or otherwise be associated with the program.
