An .alt5 file is a document file associated with Adobe PageMaker 5 for Mac. It stores a publication created with the Macintosh version of the desktop publishing software.
File type category:
Document file
Date updated: September 28, 2026
Adobe PageMaker was desktop publishing software from Adobe. An ALT5 file contains the data for a PageMaker publication, including its document layout and the text and other elements placed in the publication.
The format belongs to the legacy Mac version of PageMaker 5. Adobe PageMaker is no longer developed, so support for these files on modern Apple macOS systems may be limited.
Open the file with the Mac version of Adobe PageMaker 5 that created it, or with a compatible older Macintosh environment. Current versions of macOS may not run this legacy software directly.
If the file opens in Adobe PageMaker, use the application's printing or export workflow to create a PDF for viewing and distribution. This produces a rendered copy rather than a fully editable PageMaker document.
