The ARI file extension is associated with ARRIRAW, the camera RAW format developed by ARRI for its digital cinematography systems. Compatible Alexa and Amira cameras can record image data in this format.
An ARI file contains the camera's raw image data and associated recording information. It can store a captured image, a sequence of images or video data for subsequent color correction, visual effects and other post-production work rather than serving as a finished distribution video.
ARRIRAW files can be processed with ARRIRAW Converter on Microsoft Windows. They are also supported by compatible versions of Adobe SpeedGrade on Windows and Apple Final Cut Pro on macOS.
On Microsoft Windows, open the file with ARRIRAW Converter. Compatible versions of Adobe SpeedGrade can also import and process ARRIRAW files.
On Apple macOS or Mac OS X, use a compatible version of Apple Final Cut Pro. Because an ARI file contains camera RAW data, it may need to be imported or processed rather than opened as a conventional video file.
Use ARRIRAW Converter or another compatible post-production application to process the ARI file and export it to a suitable editing, grading or delivery format.
Conversion renders the camera RAW data into a different image or video format, so the appropriate export format depends on the intended workflow. The ARI file itself is normally retained as the camera original.

Archive and compressed file

An ARI file is a compressed archive associated with the ARI compression format. Its contents are compressed using arithmetic coding.
ARI is an obsolete format, so support in current archive programs is limited.
Open an ARI file with a compatible archiver or other software that specifically supports the ARI compression format. General-purpose archive utilities may not recognize it.
Because ARI is obsolete, a legacy environment or an original compatible utility may be required to extract the archive.
ARI files do not generally have a direct conversion option. If a compatible ARI utility can extract the archive, extract its contents and then create a new archive in a currently supported format.
