Generally speaking, you can simply rename .ico files to .icon, or open it using one of the icon editing programs such as Axialis IconWorkshop and perform the ico to icon conversion there, in case its a different icon format. Some graphics editor can be used pretty much the same way, as icons can be opened / edited using plenty of programs.
