You should be able to import VMware virtual machines to VirtualBox just fine, so there should be nothing preventing you from transforming .vmdk files (virtual disks) to OVF format, which is what vmdk to ovf conversion represents.
You can do this in VirtualBox by importing the VMware machines and then use the File ► Export Appliance option, select virtual machine and export it as an .ovf. Only whole virtual machines can be converted, not just some their parts.
