File extension cue is mainly related to cue sheet description file also known as Description File for a CD-Image (.bin file) originally used by CDRWIN CD/DVD recording application.
Cue sheet description file is an ASCII (plain text) file that specifies how the tracks of a compact disc should be laid out. Cue sheet file can be viewed and edited in any text editor such as Notepad, Notepad++, TextEdit, gedit etc.
For an audio CD, the cue sheet can specify titles and performers for the disc and its tracks as well as the names of one or more audio files to be used. MP3, WAV and BIN files are often used, although some programs support other formats. Cue sheets are especially useful when burning or listening to live sets where all tracks are recorded in one file.
Cue Splitter application is able to create audio tracks from one long mix with using information about tracks in CUE file.
Some multimedia players such as KMPlayer, VUPlayer are able to use CUE file as playlist file and playback audio tracks listed in it.
Many disk image handling programs nowadays can load up .cue/.bin files and work with them.
Also Cue sheet files are in simple text format, so you can use any text editor to view and possibly edit it.
On its own, conversion of .cue files is pointless. You need to convert both .bin and .cue files together in order to convert them to other virtual machine formats.
