File type: Document file
A .cwks file is a file created by ClarisWorks, Apple's document and productivity software for Macintosh computers.
File type category:
Document file
Date updated: September 24, 2026
ClarisWorks was developed by Claris, an Apple software company, and combined word processing, spreadsheet, database and drawing features in one application. A CWKS file stores content created with ClarisWorks and belongs to the application's native document formats.
ClarisWorks was made for classic Mac OS and was also available for Mac OS X. The software and its file format are legacy products and are no longer commonly used on current systems.
Open a .cwks file with ClarisWorks on a compatible Macintosh system. Current versions of macOS may not run this older software natively, so an older Mac or a suitable classic Mac environment may be required.
Open the file in ClarisWorks and use its Save As or export commands to create a format supported by another application. The available output formats depend on the type of content in the file and the version of ClarisWorks.
