The .d4nk file extension is associated with PyL33T, a ransomware strain reported in late February 2017. Like other ransomware, PyL33T encrypts users' files and renames their suffixes.
PyL33T appears to have been written in Python. A .d4nk file contains the encrypted contents of an original user file rather than a separate file format created for normal use.
A .d4nk file cannot normally be opened with a standard application because its contents have been encrypted by PyL33T. Renaming the file or changing its extension does not decrypt it.
The file can be opened only after successful decryption and restoration. No known decryptor for PyL33T is currently available.
A .d4nk file cannot be meaningfully converted while it remains encrypted. It must first be successfully decrypted and restored to its original format.
