SMS uses discovery data records to add newly discovered resources to its site database or update information about resources it already knows. Discovery methods and SMS components create these records during the discovery process.
A DDR file contains discovery properties and other identifying information for the resource. It is an internal data file that belongs to the SMS management workflow rather than a document intended for ordinary user access.
Systems Management Server was Microsoft management software for Microsoft Windows. SMS has been replaced by newer Microsoft endpoint-management products, so DDR files are primarily associated with legacy SMS installations.
