The dicom file extension is used for a medicine omage file saved in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) image format.
Created by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) as a standard for distributing and viewing medical images, such as MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasound images.
Usually these files are viewed using special programs for devices used in medicine. Some graphics viewer may still support it and open it just fine.
It should be possible to export DICOM pictures as normal images, but that will remove any special metadata.
