Xilinx ISE ReportGen delay information
File type: Various data file
A dly file contains delay information generated by ReportGen in the Xilinx ISE Design Suite.
It is a supporting data file for an ISE design and is not a general-purpose document format.

The dly file extension is associated with ISE Design Suite, the Xilinx integrated development environment for programmable-logic design on Microsoft Windows. Xilinx developed the suite.
A dly file stores delay information produced by the suite's ReportGen component. ISE uses this information as part of its design reporting and analysis processes rather than as a document intended for independent editing.
Open the file through the Xilinx ISE Design Suite or the ISE project that generated it on Microsoft Windows. ReportGen uses the file as supporting delay information, so it may not have a useful standalone viewer or editor.
If the file is not recognized, use the corresponding ISE project and its reporting tools rather than renaming the file or opening it in an unrelated application.
A dly file is supporting data for Xilinx ISE ReportGen and is not normally converted on its own. To obtain information in another form, regenerate the relevant report in ISE and export or save that report using the output options provided by the tool.

The GHCN-Daily format is used by the Global Historical Climatology Network-Daily, maintained by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). It stores daily climate observations for weather stations.
A .dly file normally contains fixed-width records for one station. The records identify the station, year, month, and weather element, followed by daily values and quality, measurement, and source flags. Elements can include precipitation, temperature, snowfall, and snow depth.
The format is distributed as part of GHCN-Daily and remains in use for historical and ongoing climate data. Because the files are plain text, they can be processed on multiple platforms, including by GHCN-Daily software.
A .dly file can be viewed in any plain-text editor. The fixed-width records are easier to interpret with a script or data-processing tool that understands the GHCN-Daily format.
Use GHCN-Daily (Multiplatform) to work with the data on a supported operating system. Avoid treating the file as a regular spreadsheet, because its fixed-width fields and data flags may not import correctly without suitable field definitions.
GHCN-Daily files do not normally need conversion for use with the dataset software. To use the observations in another application, parse the fixed-width records and export the selected fields to CSV, a database table, or another analysis format.
A conversion script should preserve the daily value flags and missing-value indicators; a generic text converter may lose this information.
