The gpi file extension is used by family of GPS application produced by Garmin.
The gpi file contains point of interest data. A point of interest, or POI, is a specific point location that someone may find useful or interesting.
An example is a point on the Earth representing the location of the Space Needle, or a point on Mars representing the location of the mountain, Olympus Mons.

EAGLE Layout Editor, originally developed by CadSoft and now associated with Autodesk, uses GPI files as part of its Gerber output for PCB fabrication. The file provides photoplotter-related information that accompanies the actual Gerber plot files.
A GPI file is not the EAGLE board design itself. It belongs to a group of manufacturing-output files produced from that design by the CAM processor, and it is normally kept with the other files when the design is sent for fabrication.
The format is an auxiliary Gerber-era output format rather than a general-purpose PCB exchange format. EAGLE Layout Editor is available for Microsoft Windows.
A GPI file is normally consumed as part of an EAGLE Gerber output set rather than opened as a standalone design. Open the related board file in EAGLE Layout Editor and regenerate the manufacturing files with its CAM tools when possible.
Because the file contains plotter information, its contents can also be inspected with a plain-text editor. A text editor will not display the PCB layout or provide a way to edit the board.
A GPI file does not normally have a useful standalone conversion. It is supporting information for Gerber manufacturing output, not a complete PCB design.
To produce different manufacturing data, open the original EAGLE board design and export the required Gerber files again with the CAM processor. If the original design is unavailable, the GPI file alone cannot recreate the PCB layout.

GNU Pascal is a Pascal compiler from the GNU Project. During compilation, it can create a gpi file for a unit so that the compiler can read the unit's interface information when building dependent Pascal programs.
The file is a compiler-generated part of a GNU Pascal project rather than a document intended for direct editing. It belongs with the corresponding Pascal unit and helps GNU Pascal resolve the declarations and other interface data that the unit makes available.
GNU Pascal was designed for multiple platforms, but it is now a legacy compiler and the gpi file format is rarely encountered in new projects.
A gpi file normally does not need to be opened manually. Install and use GNU Pascal on a supported platform; the compiler reads the file automatically when it is in the unit search path for a Pascal project.
A text editor may open the file as raw data, but it is a compiler interface file and may not display useful, editable source code.
There is no generally useful conversion from a gpi file to another document format. It is generated for GNU Pascal's internal compilation process, not for interchange or presentation.
If a replacement gpi file is needed, compile the corresponding Pascal unit with GNU Pascal again. A gpi file cannot generally be converted back into the original Pascal source code.
