SWAT (Soil & Water Assessment Tool) is a watershed and water-resource simulation program developed by the USDA Agricultural Research Service and Texas A&M University. The .lwq file stores lake water quality input parameters for the model.
SWAT reads the file as part of a project when simulating water quality in a lake or reservoir. Its parameters help model the movement of nutrients and pesticides through the reservoir and work together with the other input files used by the SWAT project.
SWAT is available for Microsoft Windows. The LWQ format is a specialized SWAT input format and is intended for use within a SWAT project rather than as a standalone document.
Open an LWQ file with SWAT on Microsoft Windows as part of the project that uses it. SWAT reads the file during the relevant lake or reservoir water quality simulation.
To inspect the stored values, open a copy in a plain-text editor. Editing it outside SWAT can make the project invalid if the required syntax or values are changed.
LWQ files are SWAT model input files rather than general-purpose data exchange files.
To use the data in another SWAT project, recreate or copy the corresponding lake water quality inputs within that project's SWAT input workflow and check them before running the simulation.
