The MAXD file extension was used by PaperPort for Mac to store annotations made on documents. The data may be linked to a PaperPort document and is meaningful together with that document.
PaperPort for Mac is no longer available. PaperPort is now distributed for Microsoft Windows, but current Windows versions may not support annotation files created by the discontinued Mac edition.
Open the associated document in PaperPort for Windows and check whether the program recognizes the accompanying .maxd file. Compatibility with files created by the discontinued Mac edition is not guaranteed.
No current Mac version of PaperPort is available to open this file. Opening the MAXD file by itself may not display anything because it contains annotation data rather than the document itself.
A MAXD file cannot normally be converted independently because it stores annotations for an associated PaperPort document. If PaperPort can open the document and display its annotations, use PaperPort's print or export function to create a PDF or image that preserves the visible annotations.
