File extension MNG description:
MNG (pronounced "ming") is a format for storing multiple bitmaps and animations and is a close cousin of the PNG format.
When storing images, MNG allows both lossless compression similar to PNG, and lossy compression similar to JPEG.
When storing animations, MNG does not allow audio or video, but does include more sophisticated animation features than GIF, which help keep file size to a minimum.
While MNG is in principle an excellent file format, there is a major problem with using MNG for web publishing - namely that most/many web browsers do not support it all, or only if special plug-ins (which most people won't have are installed).
