OPS file extension - Microsoft Office profile settings

What is ops file? How to open ops files?

File extension ops is associated with Microsoft Office Profile Wizard utility, which helps users to create default user profile that includes standard locations for files and templates.

Microsoft Office profile settings files are used to export and backup user custom settings of Microsoft Office applications. Microsoft Office Profile Wizard was distributed with Microsoft Office to Office version 2003.

Microsoft Office 2007 and higher don't contain any profile backup utility similar to Microsoft Office Profile Wizard. However it is able to download  set of tools named Office 2003 Editions Resource Kit that contain Profile Wizard utility from Microsoft website.

Profile Wizard can create ops files (profiles) as well as restore the Office settings from them.

Office 2003 Editions Resource Kit also contains Microsoft OPS File Viewer that is able to view content of Microsoft Office profile settings files.

Be careful when using of Office 2003 Edition Resource Kit, because the program is primary created for Office 2003 and it was reported that not every utility included in Resource Kit works properly with Office 2007 and higher.
