Quicken for Mac data exchange format
File type: Accounting, financial and tax file
The .qxf file extension identifies a Quicken Exchange Format file. It stores Quicken financial data for transfer between Quicken for Mac and Quicken for Windows.
File type category:
Accounting, financial and tax file
Date updated: October 20, 2026
QXF is associated with Quicken, personal finance software published by Quicken Inc. for Apple macOS and Microsoft Windows. Quicken Essentials was an earlier Mac application that used this exchange format.
A QXF file contains Quicken financial data, such as account information and transactions, so that data can be transferred between compatible Quicken installations. It is an exchange file rather than the main working data file used by Quicken.
Quicken for Mac can use QXF files to exchange data with Quicken for Windows, although the available import and export options depend on the software version. QXF should not be confused with the different Quicken file type qfx, which is associated with financial institution downloads.
A .qxf file is not intended to be opened as a standalone document. Import it using Quicken for Mac or Quicken for Windows. In Quicken, use the appropriate File and Import command and select the QXF file.
Quicken Essentials, an older Mac product, may also open or import compatible QXF files. Import options and menu names can vary between Quicken versions.
QXF is already a Quicken exchange format, so it normally does not need conversion. To move the data, import the file into a compatible version of Quicken and use that program's export features to create another supported format.
The data that can be exported, and the formats available, depend on the Quicken version and platform.
