REMK file extension - STOP Ransomware variant

What is remk file? How to open remk files?

File type specification:

Ransomware encrypted file type icon Ransomware encrypted file type

File extension remk is used by one of the variants of STOP ransomware that appeared during the COVID-19 crisis (March 2020) and affected several hospitals. Pretty much like any other ransomware it encrypts users files, renames the file extension and demands ransom in bitcoins.

You can find decrypters for previous versions of STOP ransomware, so it's just matter of time before decrypter for this variant is available as well.

Help how to open:

When dealing with encrypted files caused by some ransomware, you basically have three choices:

1. restore from backup
2. wait for some researcher or AV company to release decryptor for your particular ransomware version
3. pay the ransom

However, even paying the ransom does not guarantee you that you will get your files back, as lots of ransomware are just pure scams.

How to convert:

You cannot convert these files to anything else. You first have to recover / decrypt the files before you can convert them to anything else.
