The SKT format belongs to Shorten by SoftSound Limited. A seek table contains position information for a Shorten-compressed audio file, allowing compatible software to move to different points without scanning the entire file from the beginning.
The file is a supporting file for the associated Shorten audio data, normally an SHN file. It does not contain a separately playable copy of the recording and is generally used by Shorten-compatible tools rather than edited by users.
Shorten is a legacy lossless audio format and has largely been superseded by formats such as FLAC. Existing SKT files may still be encountered with archived Shorten audio collections.
An SKT file is not normally opened as a standalone document. Keep it with its associated Shorten audio file and open or process that audio with Shorten-compatible software; the seek table can then be used automatically.
If the associated audio file is missing, the SKT file alone cannot be played or used to recover the recording.
An SKT file contains seek information rather than audio, so it has no useful standalone conversion to another audio format.
To convert the recording, decode the associated Shorten audio file with compatible software and export the resulting audio to a supported format. A new seek table can be generated when the Shorten audio is processed, if the software provides that option.
