TRI files belong to the LiveUpdate software distributed with Symantec applications, including Symantec Antivirus and pcAnywhere. LiveUpdate uses them to identify updates available for the installed products.
The files store product update lists. The format is intended for internal use by LiveUpdate and is not a general-purpose data-exchange format. Older Symantec installations may still contain these files, but they are normally managed automatically by the associated update software.
A TRI file is normally processed automatically by Symantec LiveUpdate. It is not intended to be opened as a document, and a standard text or archive program may not display useful information from it.
To use the information in the file, run the LiveUpdate function provided with the associated Symantec product rather than opening or editing the file manually.
There is no useful general-purpose conversion for a LiveUpdate product update list. The file is an internal component of the update process, so it should be left in its original format.
