XAML is a descriptive programming language developed by Microsoft for creating user interfaces. It was introduced during the development stages of Longhorn, which is now Windows Vista.
XAML is actually two different file formats, one for 2D vector graphics and a very simple one for 3D polygons graphics (with limited animation file format). The heyday of the 3D XAML file format was in the 2004-2007 era.
The easiest way to open an XAML file is to double-click on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file. If no program opens the XAML file then you probably don't have an application installed that can view and/or edit XAML files.
Some programs can convert *.xaml files to other formats. Typically used for 3D graphics.
