CHK file extension - ScanDisk file fragment
What is chk file? How to open chk files?
File type specification:
File extension chk is mainly associated with ScanDisk utility used to check errors in file system or physical errors on hard drive. It is available in MS-DOS as well as in Windows.
The .chk file contain fragments cleaned from the disk. When Microsoft Windows disk checking programs find errors on your hard disk they usually save the "lost" data fragments to chk files.
These .CHK files are usually stored in the root directory or in a folder named FOUND.000 (or FOUND.001, FOUND.002, etc.) on the drive. They can be safely deleted if you don't need to recover any lost data. However, if you've lost important data, you might be able to recover some of it from these .CHK files using a third-party recovery tool.
