We have found 3 software records in our database eligible for .dwg to .ply file format conversion.
It seems like both DWG and PLY are CAD formats, so there is a possibility that AutoCAD can convert them between each other. Such dwg to ply conversion is most likely used for export of 3D models or CAD files to a polygon only graphics format.

DWG
A dwg file extension is used for standard CAD file format, originally used by AutoCAD. A DWG is a proprietary format and can only be created in AutoCAD. Other CAD programs can usually import it but not create its proprietary form. Because of this, DWGs are often exported to DXF interchange format so that they can be seamlessly used in other CAD programs.
PLY
Files with ply file extension can be found as various polygon 3D data files generated by many 3D modeling or CAD programs.
