The only software that can reliably convert between two different versions of Adobe FreeHand drawings is FreeHand itself. For fh9 to fh8 conversion you have to look and find versions 9 or later, preferably FreeHand MX. Unfortunately it has been discontinued in the past, which makes things much more difficult to nowadays convert fh9 to fh8.
