Check out some options how mc8 files might be converted to mc9 format.
Mastercam has a VB script that allows for batch conversion of .mc8 files from version 8 to .mc9 files from version 9. This seems to be the most convenient way to perform mc8 to mc9 conversion, especially if you own many older drawings and need to quickly convert them to newer version.
Unfortunately, there is no detailed software record in the database for this conversion.

Files with mc8 extension are used for Mastercam. They include CAD files.
MC9
Files with mc9 file extension can be most often encountered as CAD files from Mastercam software.
