It seems that both .ret and .rep files were used in BusinessObjects software solution from SAP. Unfortunately, we weren't really able to determine whenever a ret to rep conversion is actually feasible and what it should be used for. Perhaps the template (.ret file) can be used for making new reports (.rep), but that's pure speculation just based on the file types.
