Přípona souboru dxf se používá pro Drawing Exchange Format, vyvinutý společností Autodesk jako snaha vytvořit stabilní formát pro výměnu mezi AutoCADem a jiným CAD softwarem, poprvé vydaný v roce 1982. Autodesk zveřejnil specifikace DXF pro DXF od AutoCAD Release 13 až po AutoCAD 2012.
