The 8BPI file extension identifies a legacy Adobe Photoshop plug-in file for Mac. Adobe Photoshop plug-ins add capabilities that are not included in the application's core feature set.
An 8BPI file is an extension to Photoshop rather than an image, project, or document file, so it is normally used from within the application.
This format was associated with earlier Mac versions of Adobe Photoshop, including versions for Mac OS X. It is now generally obsolete, and current releases of Photoshop may not support 8BPI files.
An 8BPI file is not opened as a standalone document. On a Mac, place it in the compatible version of Adobe Photoshop's Plug-ins folder, then restart Photoshop so the application can load it.
The file must be compatible with the installed Photoshop release and the Mac platform. If Photoshop does not recognize it, the plug-in is probably incompatible or no longer supported.
An 8BPI file is a software plug-in, not a document or image, so it cannot be meaningfully converted to a common file format. Adobe Photoshop does not provide a standard export process for converting it into another plug-in format.
To use the same functionality with current Photoshop, obtain a compatible replacement plug-in rather than converting the 8BPI file.
