AngleWare ransomware first appeared in late March 2017 and is a variant of HiddenTear/MafiaWare. It encrypts files, renames them, and appends the .angleware file extension.
The files contain encrypted versions of the original data. The ransomware demands payment in bitcoins in exchange for a decryption key. This malware is associated with Windows systems, and the .angleware file is not a normal document or application format.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no decrypter for .angleware files at the time of writing. Ordinary applications cannot open the files as their original content. They must first be decrypted with a tool compatible with the exact ransomware variant, or restored from an unaffected backup.
.angleware files cannot be meaningfully converted while they remain encrypted. After successful decryption, the recovered files can be opened or converted using software that supports their original formats.
