The _xls file extension is not default file extension used by the Excel. Excel uses file extension xls, but some e-mail clients rename xls to _xls to protect computer against malicious macros, that can contain Excel spreadsheets.
When they rename xls to _xls Excel can not open this spreadsheet. If you save the Excel spreadsheet with _xls file extension to the computer and rename the file extension to xls, Excel will be able to open this file.
