File extension acsm is most likely best known for its use for one of the default files in Adobe Digital Editions.
Adobe Content Server Message (.acsm) files are used to manage and download digital content, mostly e-books, but can also be used for some other digital content as well.
The acsm files contain all the information to download and activate digital content that they represent. They are also used as a form of digital content authorization, much like a DRM license that is used for music and video media.
Basically, this format is used as some sort of a purchase ticket (a key) that allows you to download e-books. In Digital Editions you can find the path to the book in the Item Info dialog.
Content Server 4 protected e-books can not be opened in either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader and can only be opened in Digital Editions.
MIME types:
application/vnd.adobe.adept+xml
Use Adobe Digital Editions to open the .acsm file and download your ebook.
When the link is downloaded to Digital Editions, you can proceed to export your ebook to other formats, like PDF or EPUB.
