NuFX is a legacy archive format used with AppleLink, formerly known as AppleLink Personal Edition and later associated with America Online. ACU files package files into a compressed archive for storage or transfer.
The archive can contain files and the associated information needed by Apple II software. ShrinkIt is the archive utility associated with this format; the Windows version can extract the files from an ACU archive.
ACU is a legacy format and is mainly encountered in older AppleLink and Apple II software collections rather than in current file-transfer workflows.
On Microsoft Windows, open the ACU file with ShrinkIt. Start ShrinkIt and use its archive-opening or extraction function to view and unpack the contents.
Because ACU is a legacy archive format, current general-purpose archive programs may not recognize it.
There is usually no need to convert an ACU file itself. Extract its contents with ShrinkIt, then place the extracted files in a current archive format such as ZIP if they need to be shared with modern software.
Conversion to another archive format can remove Apple II-specific file information, so retain the original ACU file when that information matters.
