uGet aria2 incomplete download
File type: Temporary file
An aria2 file is a temporary control file created by aria2 when used with uGet to track an incomplete download.
It belongs to the uGet download manager and is not the downloaded file itself.
File type category:
Temporary file
Date updated: October 16, 2026
The aria2 file extension is associated with the aria2 plug-in used by uGet, an Internet download manager for Microsoft Windows, BSD, Linux and Android operating systems.
An aria2 file stores control information that uGet and aria2 use to manage a download that is still in progress. It works with the related partially downloaded file so the download can be resumed.
The file is not intended to be opened as a document or played as media. After the file download is complete, the temporary control file is removed; the extension is not converted into part of the completed file.
Do not open an aria2 file directly. If the related partial download is still present, resume it with uGet configured to use aria2. uGet and aria2 use the file automatically to continue the download.
Opening the file in a media player or treating it as the downloaded file will not provide useful access to its contents. Some multimedia partial files may perhaps be played, but they may produce errors or fail to load.
An aria2 file cannot be meaningfully converted. It contains temporary download control information rather than the completed file's content.
Resume the download in uGet and convert the completed original file afterward, if its format supports conversion.
