The .bts file extension is associated with BitTorrent Sync, a peer-to-peer file synchronization tool developed by BitTorrent, Inc. The software uses these files while receiving or synchronizing data.
A .bts file represents a file whose download or synchronization is still in progress. BitTorrent Sync uses it to allocate and reserve space for the final file. After the transfer finishes, the temporary extension is changed back to the original extension.
A .bts file is not intended to be opened directly. Open or manage it through BitTorrent Sync and allow the associated download or synchronization task to finish.
Do not rename the file while the transfer is in progress, because BitTorrent Sync may need the temporary name and reserved space to complete the original file.
A .bts file cannot be usefully converted while it is an unfinished BitTorrent Sync transfer. Let BitTorrent Sync complete the download or synchronization instead.
When the transfer is complete, the software restores the original file extension. The resulting file can then be opened or converted according to its actual format.
