Comrade ransomware is generally identified as a variant of Fantom ransomware. It encrypts files on Windows systems and renames them with the .comrade file extension.
The file retains the encrypted contents of the original file. Comrade ransomware may also display a fake Windows Update screen while it carries out its activity.
The comrade file extension is used by the ransomware for affected files rather than by a legitimate application. The encrypted data normally cannot be used until it is recovered with a decryptor that supports this ransomware or from an unaffected backup.
