Files with crypt12 extension can be found as encrypted chat history databases from latest version of WhatsApp Messenger instant messaging client for Android.

File extension crypt12 is mainly associated with the WhatsApp Messenger, an instant messaging service and client for various mobile platforms.
The crypt12 file stores encrypted and protected database (AES-256 encryption) with chat history similar to SQLite database format.
By default, the file is called: msgstore.db.crypt12 and is stored on phone SDcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder.
The key file used to decrypt .crypt12 file is stored in folder located on system partition:
/data/data/com.whatsapp/files/key
By default, the .crypt12 files are used by WhatsApp for Android.
Future versions of WhatsApp may use .crypt13, .crypt14 file extension.
You can restore .crypt12 backups with the default function of the WhatsApp program. You may even transfer them to another device, provided it uses same telephone number.
Omni-Crypt and other tools are able to export *.crypt12 files to *.crypt or *.db format.
