Record marked as obsolete and not updated for a long time.
The format was defined by GAEB, the German Gemeinsamer Ausschuss Elektronik im Bauwesen (Joint Committee for Electronics in Construction). GAEB exchange files allow construction specifications, bids, orders and related data to be transferred between estimating, tendering and accounting applications.
Within the GAEB 1990 scheme, the D83 file type is used for an Angebotsaufforderung, or request for quotation. It can contain the bill of quantities and the commercial information needed to invite a contractor to submit an offer.
GAEB 1990 is obsolete and has largely been superseded by newer GAEB exchange specifications. Current construction software may support later formats without supporting D83 files directly.
Open a .d83 file with construction estimating, tendering or accounting software that explicitly supports the GAEB 1990 exchange format. Select the file from that program's GAEB import function rather than opening it as a general document.
If the file does not open, the installed software may support newer GAEB formats only. In that case, use an older or compatible GAEB application, or ask the sender to provide the data in a supported exchange format.
A construction or tendering application with GAEB 1990 import support may be able to import the file and export it to a newer GAEB exchange format.
Conversion support depends on the application and may not preserve every field or commercial detail. Keep the original D83 file and verify the converted bill of quantities and tender data.
