DAAP, or Digital Audio Access Protocol, was developed by Apple for sharing music and library information over a network. iTunes uses DAAP data for playlist and media-library sharing, and compatible multimedia players and open-source DAAP clients can also support the protocol.
In addition to its networking functions, DAAP defines a binary syntax that expresses information similar to the information stored in the iTunes library XML format. A DAAP file contains playlist or related library metadata, not the audio tracks themselves.
The format belongs to the iTunes ecosystem and is associated with Apple iTunes for Windows and Apple iTunes for Mac.
Open the file with Apple iTunes on Windows or with Apple iTunes on Mac OS X or macOS where that version is installed. DAAP files are normally read as part of iTunes library or sharing data, rather than opened as ordinary documents.
A DAAP file is playlist and library data, not an audio recording, so audio conversion tools cannot convert it.
If iTunes can access the playlist, use its playlist export features to create an XML or another supported playlist file. This exports the playlist represented in iTunes rather than converting the DAAP file directly.
