Direct Internet Message Encapsulation DIME data
File type: Encoded and encrypted file
A dim file contains data in the Direct Internet Message Encapsulation (DIME) format. DIME is used to package SOAP messages and related attachments for transmission.
DIME is a message format rather than a document format tied to one desktop application.

DIME is a compact binary format for encapsulating one or more related payloads in a single message. A DIME message can contain a SOAP message together with attachments such as binary files, XML fragments, or additional SOAP messages.
DIME messages are commonly transported through protocols such as HTTP. A dim file may therefore represent a captured or saved DIME message produced by a SOAP service or a DIME-capable application, rather than a file intended for direct editing.
The format was designed for web services and SOAP attachments. It is not encryption by itself.
A dim file normally needs the SOAP client, web-service tool, or application that created it, with support for DIME messages. It is not generally opened as a regular document in a desktop application.
If the file was saved from a particular web-service system, use that system to inspect the message and extract its SOAP or attachment payloads. Without a DIME-capable application or library, the contents may not be readable in a useful form.
There is no universal desktop converter for DIME data. A DIME-capable SOAP application or programming library can unpack the message and save its SOAP body and attachments separately.
Such software may also repackage the contents for another SOAP attachment method, such as MTOM, when the receiving service supports it. This is an application-level conversion rather than a simple change of the file extension.
