File type: Document file
An .elfo file is a form file used by ElsterFormular, German tax-return software for Windows.
It stores an ElsterFormular tax form and its entered data.
File type category:
Document file

ElsterFormular was tax software provided for the German tax administration. It ran on Microsoft Windows and was developed by the German company Elster. The software helped users complete and submit German tax forms electronically.
An .elfo file contains an ElsterFormular form, including the data entered into that form. It is intended for use within ElsterFormular rather than as a general-purpose document format.
ElsterFormular is legacy software and has been superseded by the web-based Mein ELSTER service. Older .elfo files may therefore require the original Windows software for access or editing.
Open an .elfo file with ElsterFormular on Microsoft Windows. Use the software's Open command and select the file.
Mein ELSTER does not necessarily open legacy .elfo files directly, so keep a compatible installation of ElsterFormular if the form must be edited.
Use ElsterFormular to export or print a finished .elfo file to PDF or another document format. A PDF printer may be used if necessary.
A PDF preserves the printed appearance but does not remain an editable ElsterFormular file.
