Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia yearbook update file
File type: Various data file
An .eyb file is a yearbook update file used by Microsoft Encarta, Microsoft's encyclopedia software for Windows. It contains update data for the Encarta encyclopedia and is intended for use by the software rather than as a standalone document.
File type category:
Various data file
Date updated: September 27, 2026
Microsoft Encarta used EYB files for yearbook updates containing newer or revised encyclopedia information. The file belongs to the Encarta data set and is read by the application as part of its update content.
Microsoft Encarta is discontinued, so EYB files are mainly encountered with older Encarta installations on Microsoft Windows. An EYB file does not normally provide content in a general-purpose, independently readable format.
Open an EYB file with a compatible installation of Microsoft Encarta on Windows. Use Encarta's update functions if available; opening the file directly may not display anything because it is application data.
There is no standard conversion for an EYB file. It is an Encarta update file rather than a document format, so it should be used by a compatible Encarta installation.
If the information is needed in another format, it must be copied or exported from Encarta after the update has been applied; the EYB file itself is not normally convertible directly.
