Apple Extensions Manager was an Apple utility included with earlier versions of Mac OS. It allowed users to manage system extensions and related components.
A FERP file contains saved preference settings used by Extensions Manager. It is part of the utility's configuration data rather than a document intended for general editing.
The format belongs to the classic Mac OS environment and is no longer used by current macOS versions. Modern macOS does not include Apple Extensions Manager.
A .ferp file is normally read by Apple Extensions Manager on a compatible classic Mac OS system. It is not intended to be opened as a standalone document.
On modern macOS or other platforms, there is generally no supported application for opening this file. If the file is needed on a classic Mac OS system, it should be kept with the Extensions Manager preference data rather than opened with a general-purpose editor.
As a preference file, the FERP format is not normally converted to another format.
To reproduce the settings on a compatible classic Mac OS system, configure them again in Apple Extensions Manager. The original file can be retained as a backup.
