FFmpegSource2 is a wrapper around the FFmpeg and related libav libraries. It provides applications with decoding, frame access, and playback-related features for supported media files.
The ffindex file stores seek-index data and other information needed to access the associated media efficiently. It is an auxiliary file that works with the original video or audio file rather than replacing it.
FFmpegSource2 and compatible applications can create an ffindex file when they index media. The format is intended for internal use by those applications and is not a general-purpose media interchange format.
An ffindex file is not intended to be opened as a standalone media file. Keep it with the associated source media and open that media in an application that uses FFmpegSource2 or a compatible indexing library.
If the index is missing or no longer matches the media, the application can usually recreate it by indexing the source file.
An ffindex file cannot be meaningfully converted into a video, audio file, or another common media format because it contains index data rather than media data.
To create a different media format, convert the associated source file with an appropriate FFmpeg-based application. If the index is damaged or outdated, delete it and let FFmpegSource2 recreate it instead of converting it.
