The fnt file extension is sometimes used for files that contains computer fonts. This is a somewhat rare file extension for fonts. Much more common file extension used fonts are FON (Windows font file), TTF (TrueType font), OTF (OpenType font) and PFB (Adobe type 1 font).
It is likely, that fnt file extension was more popular in the past, but eventually replaced by the previously mentioned formats, to denote their type.
