The Common Desktop Environment uses CDE Front Panel files to define the desktop panel displayed by the CDE window manager. The files can specify panel controls, subpanels, labels, icons and the actions associated with them.
These files are configuration or source files rather than office documents. They are intended for CDE installations on Unix-like operating systems and are normally read by CDE when the desktop environment starts or reloads its configuration.
CDE is a legacy desktop environment, so this format is uncommon on current systems.
A .fp file is usually a plain-text configuration file. On a CDE system, it should be placed in the appropriate CDE configuration location so that CDE can load it; the exact location depends on the installation.
To inspect or edit the file manually, open it with a text editor.
CDE Front Panel files do not have a standard document conversion format. Their contents are CDE-specific configuration, so they cannot be meaningfully converted to an office document or another general file format.
To reuse the settings, edit the text manually or recreate the panel in another desktop environment.

CRiSP Harvest uses FP files to store detailed Fishery Policy, or Harvest Rate, scalars. These values change the impact of each fishery on the modeled stocks from one year to the next.
The file stores the FP values in separate blocks, with one block for each year. Each block contains 30 rows for the stocks and 25 columns for the fisheries. The format contains no other flags, values, or tokens. FP files belong to the CRiSP Harvest model and are used as its fishery policy input data.
Open the file with CRiSP Harvest on Microsoft Windows. The software uses the FP file as fishery policy data for its salmon stock and fishery model.
Because the file contains model input values in a fixed block layout, opening it in another program may display the data without providing a useful way to use it.
There is no meaningful general-purpose conversion for a CRiSP Harvest FP file. It is a fishery policy input file rather than a document or interchange format.
