ftx files belong to the proposed Fielded Text standard. The standard provides structure and schema definitions for text files containing tables of values, such as CSV files.
The format and structure of the data can be specified in an ftx meta file. The meta file is used with the associated text file to access its data in a way similar to accessing data in a database.
An ftx file is intended to be used together with the specially formatted text file it describes. Open both files with software that supports the Fielded Text schema.
You can also open the meta file in a text editor to inspect its contents, although a text editor will not interpret the schema or provide database-like access to the associated data.
An ftx file normally cannot be converted meaningfully on its own. It describes the structure of an associated text file rather than containing the tabular data itself.
To change the data format, convert or export the associated text file and create or update its corresponding meta file for the new structure.
