The gcd file extension was in the past used for older disk image format created by Prassi burning software (like Prassi Global-CD), a program distributed with some professional CD/RW burners.
Prassi also licensed and later sold the product, so it is highly likely that programs with different name used the same file format. Such programs like Sony CD Extreme, Veritas My CD, My CD Pro, or Sonic RecordNow! were often bundled with various DVD/RW drives.
In 2001 Veritas acquired Prassi and the company is now defunct, the original software no longer sold or supported. However some 3rd party software still support GCD format.
DVD images created in Prassi software typically had gi file extension instead.
Various 3rd party programs like ISOBuster, PowerISO or UltraISO support Prassi GCD format and its clones and are able to open and burn *.gcd files.
Typically, programs that can open and burn .gcd images, can also convert them to other formats, including common ISO format.

The GCD file extension is also used for a General Content Descriptor format, a file format similar to a JAD format. While a JAD describes a J2ME MIDlet for download, a GCD describes downloads like ringtones and pictures
The GCD's are plain text files and you can create them using any simple text editor like Windows Notepad. If you'd like your phone to download your own picture, then you'll need a GCD file.

The gcd file extension is also used for somewhat older Generic CADD drawing format used in General CADD software.
It appears that this format has pretty limited support and only General CADD can work with it reliably.
As far as we know, this CAD format is only supported in the original software.
General CADD can export the GCD drawing to DWG or DXF formats.
