Heroes of Might & Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia is a turn-based strategy game developed by New World Computing and published by The 3DO Company. The game uses GM4 files to store saved games.
A GM4 file contains the information needed to restore a game, including the current scenario and the player's progress. It is part of the game's own saved-game system rather than a general-purpose document format.
The format is associated with the Microsoft Windows release of Heroes III. Although the original game is no longer actively developed, existing GM4 files can still be used with a compatible installation of the game.
Open the .gm4 file from within Heroes of Might & Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia. Place the file in the game's saved-game folder if necessary, then choose the corresponding saved game from the game's Load Game menu.
The file is not intended to be opened as a text or document file. The software linked to this record is the Microsoft Windows version of Heroes III.
GM4 files are proprietary saved-game files and do not have a useful general-purpose conversion format. There is no standard converter for turning a GM4 file into a document, image, or video.
To retain the game state, load the file in a compatible Heroes III installation and save the game again from within the software.
